Project Description
Louis Kahn’s final work
Performed engineering for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park (NY, NY) based on a 1972 design by Louis L. Kahn. The project included an unusual combination of stainless steel and massive stones that form a reinforced granite structure to resist hurricane driven waves as tall as 27 feet. The structure was designed for a 500-year service life and was scalable to address future sea level rise.
The architect for the final realization of the project was Mitchell Giurgola Architects, and the project was constructed under the watchful eye of Sciame Construction.
