Project Description
UN Headquarters: A Safer Greener Headquarters
Mr. Kelly led structural testing, design, and construction administration teams for this $4 billion dollar project, which modernized and blast-proofed the four iconic structures that form the UN Headquarters in Manhattan. Weidlinger Associates collaborated with many AEC industry leaders to bring the vision of the United Nations Capital Master Plan to reality, including EYP, G&T, Heintges, HLW, and Skanska to name a few.
Mr. Kelly supervised engineering teams to develop a testing program for historic materials subjected to extreme blast loads, and to analyze the historic structure’s response. The team then designed retrofits to strengthen the historic structural and architectural elements. Mr. Kelly also supervised the preparation of the construction documents and managed client relationships across four multidisciplinary contracts, seeing the project through, from materials testing to the final construction.
The team also provided insight and conducted research relating to sustainability, giving the team valuable assistance toward the goal of LEED Gold.
