Bowman House

The Bowman House at The Frontier Culture Muesum

Deconstruction and Relocation of a Historic Relic

The Bowman House is a historical building located in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, built by George Bowman, a German-American pioneer, landowner, farmer, and Indian fighter in the early days of the Virginia Colony

The house is one of the oldest historical buildings in the state, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and one of the first homes built in the Shenandoah Valley.

The house is located on the banks of Cedar Creek and was painstakingly preserved through a complete deconstruction and relocation.  The structure was disassembled, each piece being mapped and labeled by the team.  The historic structure was reconstructed atop a modern concrete basement that hides park bathroom facilities.

Built to last another 100 years...

The preserved structure was also reinforced so that it could be occupied as an architectural museum and stand as a testament to the merging of German and English architectural styles and culture in the Shenandoah Valley.
